Perfectly sealed - How do they do it?

A sealer is a solution applied to the surface of natural porous stone surfaces to protect them from staining. Remaining untreated and unprotected, such natural stone surfaces can result in stains due to constant exposure from dirt, spills from food, drink and oils, which over time can become permanently damaged.

Seeking a professional applicator, such as trained stone technicians at Diamond Stone Restoration, will ensure that the most appropriate sealers are selected for the surface type and location as well as the application process being correct.

Sealing Process:

STEP 1:
Pre cleaning with detergents, a solvent or antibacterial treatment to rid of contaminants prior to sealing

STEP 2:
Stone to be polished or honed and stains removed (if required) to reveal a clean surface

STEP 3:
Sealants would be applied a day or so after the cleaning / restoration or repair process to allow for adequate time for the stone to be dry.

STEP 4:
Once the sealer has settled into the stone, the reside is buffed off and the stone is able to be used immediately thereafter.
*NOTE: water must NOT contact sealed surface for 6-12hours post application (a technician will advise accordingly)

Benefits of sealing a natural stone floor include:
  • The look of the stone will be extended and preserved if sealed before use
  • An older stone that has undergone stain removal or polishing will maintain a fresher appearance for extended time
  • High traffic areas susceptible to spills, animals, foot traffic and pot plant ring marks will reduce likelihood of developing permanent stains
NOTE:
  • Sealing does NOT prevent etching to natural stone (especially marble) when exposed to acidic liquids such as wine, lemon juice or some cleaning solutions.
  • Engineered Stone is promoted as NOT requiring additional sealing as it comes with a factory seal. Should staining occur, contact the manufacturer directly for directions
